I'm James, a game developer based in West Wales who enjoys learning and developing skills across a wide range of different topics. As a graduate, I'm eager to start gaining professional experience and working towards making game dev my day job.
In 2021 I graduated from UCA with a 1st degree classification in Computer Games Arts (BA). While on the course my main focus was in-engine development but I also gained vital knowledge in many other areas of game development such as 3D asset creation, concepting methods and the importance of audio.
I have a great understanding of many different software packages and tools; from in-engine to asset creation. Always willing to learn new tools and techniques to improve my work!
Experience with multiple render pipelines and engine components.
The main language used in the Unity game engine for general scripting.
The main 3D package that I'm familiar with but have explored other packages such as Blender.
The main way I create digital concepts, 2D sprites and UI.
Experienced with both Substance painter and designer programs.
Familiar with source control systems such as Git and Github.
During my work I always aim to give 100% and to hold myself responsible for the results; good or bad. I also pride myself in my flexibility both in the skills I can develop when the need arises and the approach that needs to be tailored to any given task. Lastly, but most importantly I'm always respectful of the views of others and mindful of how a viewpoint could potentially improve a piece of work or project.
Alongside game development I also like to spend my time exploring hobbies such as language learning, photography and web dev. Here are some of the most interesting:
It may come as no surprise that as a game developer I also enjoy playing other developer's games with Overwatch being a favourite of mine.
I love the feeling of taking something that was broken and making it work again. While no expert, I am proud of saving a Switch Lite from a damaged charging port.
I have several smart sensors and IoT devices that all communicate through a containerised install of Home Assistant running on my own, personal-sized home server.
